NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team competed at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships Friday afternoon in Norman, Okla. SFA was led by senior Jocelyn Stevens who recorded a school-record time of 59.73 in the final race of her career. Stevens will compete in the women's high jump Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Wade Whittington finished 12th overall in the javelin recording a throw of 189-0. The `Jacks 4X100-meter relay team of sophomore Reggie Lazenby, sophomore Alex Harris, freshman Erik Powell and rookie Johnny Thacker also finished 12th overall with a time of 40.44. Junior Chance Edwards recorded a time of 3:55.67 to finish 16th overall in the 1,500-meter run. Junior Kenneth McKinley finished ninth in the shot put with his throw of 57-9.75.
Junior Stevina Wyatt also competed in the women's 400-meter hurdles Friday afternoon. She crossed the line 14th in the preliminaries with her time of 1:00.94. Senior Ana Rodriguez recorded a time of 16:51.22, to cross the line seventh overall and score two points for the Ladyjacks.
SFA returns to action Saturday in the final day of competition at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. The field events will begin at noon with the women's discus. The track events will be getting underway at 5 p.m., with the women's 4X100-meter relay.
