Lindsey Bryson Wins Heptathlon

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin decathletes and heptathletes wrapped up their events Friday afternoon at Fletcher Garner Track. Senior Lindsey Bryson rallied to win the heptathlon by scoring 4,577 points. Classmate Bo Simpson scored 6,393 points to finish second overall in the decathlon.
Bryson saved her best for the last day of competition as she won the long jump, javelin and 800 meters, but her most dominating performance might have come in the final event. She won the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.51, almost 12 seconds ahead of teammate Drew Rentfro. Rentfro finished fourth overall with a score of 3,664 points.
Simpson's best performance of the day came in the discus. He posted a throw of 128-00 to win the event. Teammate Ray Shadowens finished third overall with his score of 6,011 points.
SFA returns to action Saturday at 10:30 a.m., with the women's hammer throw. The track events are slated to get under way at 5 p.m., with the women's 4X100-meter relay.
