Bo Simpson Leads Decathlon After Day One

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team opened up the 2005 Dogwood Invitational Thursday with day one competition in the decathlon and heptathlon. Junior Bo Simpson leads the decathlon with 3,518 points, while teammate Ray Shadowens is third (3,312 points). In the heptathlon Lindsey Bryson is third with a score of 2,635 points, while teammate Drew Rentfro (2,259 points) rallied to finish fourth after day one.
Simpson won the long jump with a mark of 22-6.50, finishing just ahead of Shadowens (20-10.00). Simpson also won the shot put with his throw of 40-3.50 to take a commanding lead in the event.
Bryson was strong in the shot put, winning with a throw of 35-8.00. Bryson was second in the 200-meter dash as she crossed the line with a time of 26.67. Rentfro fought her way back in the competition towards the end of day, riding a strong performance in the high jump. She finished second clearing a height of 5-2.25 in the event.
Day two of the decathlon gets under way Friday at 10 a.m., with the 110-meter hurdles. The heptathlon will begin at 10:45 a.m., with the long jump.
