Track Finishes Strong at Houston Meet

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team had one of its best overall meets of the season Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Invitational. The Ladyjacks recorded two school records while the Lumberjacks brought home a school record in the 3,000 meters.
Senior Ana Rodriguez and sophomore Ashley Monteau recorded the two fastest times in school history in the 3,000-meter run. Rodriguez won the event with a time of 9:54.50, finishing just ahead of Monteau who crossed the line with a time of 9:57.69. Sophomore Markeisha Edwards set a new SFA record in the weight throw when she recorded a mark of 53-1.75 to finish third overall. Edwards also recorded a fourth-place finish in the shot put with her throw of 46-0.75. The Ladyjacks also dominated the high jump, placing four among the top five. Seniors Jocelyn Stevens and Teresa Murray both cleared a height of 5-8.50 to finish second and third respectively. Freshman Meghan Denman and Audrey Azu both recorded a jump of 5-4.50 to finish tied for fifth.
The Lumberjacks school record came in the 3,000-meter run when junior Julian Acuna recorded a time of 8:24.90 to win the race. Classmate Marc Farris was fourth overall with his time of 8:37.37. Sophomore Reggie Lazenby recorded a top-five mark in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing fourth overall with a time of 8.10. Lazenby also finished third in the long jump (23-5.50) right behind senior DeVaughn Rettig who posted a jump of 23-6.00. Rettig also finished second in the triple jump with his mark of 47-1.75. Junior Kenneth McKinley finished third in the shot put with his toss of 54-9.25.
SFA returns to action Friday Feb. 18 through Saturday Feb. 19, when travel back to Houston for the SLC Indoor Championships.
