Lumberjacks Fall to Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La. - NATCHITOCHES, La. - Despite 16 points and 12 rebounds from senior Hank Rivers, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team lost to Northwestern State, 64-62, Saturday afternoon in Prather Coliseum. The Lumberjacks are now 12-13 (.480) on the season and 6-8 (.429) in Southland Conference play.
The Lumberjacks led throughout the majority of what was a very close basketball game. SFA held the Demons to 24-of-49 (.490) from the floor, but Northwestern State shot 13-of-22 (.591) in the second half. The Demons were led by Byron Allen's 21 points and nine rebounds. The `Jacks finished the game 22-of-51 (.431) from the floor.
Trailing by two points, 64-62, the Lumberjacks got the ball back with 17.2 seconds on the clock. Leonard Brown drove down the left side of the lane only to watch his shot fall short as time expired.
Sophomore Josh Porter scored 11 points for SFA, while junior Anthony Paez added 10 points and pulled down five rebounds. The Lumberjacks also outrebounded Northwestern State, 34-29.
The Lumberjacks return to action Tuesday when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to take on UTSA. The game against the Roadrunners is slated to begin at 8 p.m., from the Convocation Center.
