SFA Sweeps SLC Indoor Titles

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's indoor track and field team wrapped-up and outstanding performance at the 2005 Southland Conference Championships by winning the program's first-ever SLC Indoor Championship for both teams. The Lumberjacks scored 111.50 points to outpace Texas-San Antonio for the title, while the Ladyjacks put 112.50 points on the board to defeat Sam Houston State, 112.5-106.
The Ladyjacks recorded one SLC individual champion and five all-conference performers on the final day of competition. The SFA men brought home two more individual titles Saturday and a total of four All-SLC performers on the final day.
Senior Ana Rodriguez won the women's 3,000 meters when she crossed the finish line with a time of 10:01.75. Junior Julian Acuna followed suit in the men's 3,000 meters when he won the race with a time of 8:31.50. Senior DeVaughn Rettig added a conference title in the triple jump when recorded a mark of 48-5.50.
Junior Stevina Wyatt earned All-SLC honors in the 400-meter dash when she finished third with a time of 56.36. Sophomore Leah Matthews added an all-conference performance in the 60-meter hurdles by placing second overall (8.62). Matthews' mark set a new school record. Freshman Kristina Windham also finished second in the pole vault when she cleared a height of 11-11.75. Sophomore Markeisha Edwards was the final Ladyjack to earn all-league honors with third-place finish in the shot put (46-2.50).
Sophomore Reggie Lazenby recorded his second all-conference honor of the meet by finishing third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.03, just missing a school-record by three-hundredths of a second. Junior Kenneth McKinley added an All-SLC performance in the shot put when he placed third overall (55-4.75).
Other Ladyjacks who had strong outings included sophomore Ashley Monteau who just missed all-conference honors in the 3,000 meters with her time of 10:04.82. Senior Jocelyn Stevens was seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (8.90). Freshman Emylee Hartwig placed seventh in the pole vault clearing a height of 10-11.75.
Junior Bo Simpson just missed all-conference honors in the heptathlon by finishing fourth overall with a score of 4,936 points. Sophomore James Williams was sixth in the shot put (52-2.00). Junior Chance Edwards was fifth in the mile run with a time of 4:17.56. Freshman Robert Smith was just under 11 seconds off Edwards' pace as he finished eighth overall with a time of 4:28.31. Junior Marc Farris finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:44.36, to place just ahead of teammate Eric Brill (8:45.56).
