WACO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer coach Nicole Nelson was named as the new assistant coach at Baylor announced BU athletic officials Friday morning.
Nelson was at SFA for four seasons, including three as the head coach. During her three seasons at the helm, the Ladyjacks recorded a 33-19-9 (.615) record, including the top-two single-season win totals in school history. Nelson guided the Ladyjacks to the 2003 Southland Conference tournament title and their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Championships. This past season, Nelson led SFA to the program's first SLC regular-season title since the 1998 season.
Nelson has been honored by the league the past two seasons for her teams' efforts on the field winning the 2003 and 2004 SLC Coach of the Year awards.
Nelson's athletes were also honored by the conference during her three-year stretch in Nacogdoches. Over the course of her three seasons, 22 Ladyjacks received All-Southland Conference honors, including five first-team selections. The Ladyjacks have also received 22 Southland Conference Player of the Week awards under Nelson as well.
The Ladyjacks have been just as successful in the classroom under Nelson. SFA has had eight players named to the Academic All-Southland Conference team over the past three seasons, including five first-team selections.
SFA will begin an immediate search for a replacement.
