
Track & Field Heads to SLC Championships

The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team will be in Houston, Texas, Friday and Saturday competing at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships. The meet will be held at the Bill Yeoman Field House on the University of Houston Campus. The meet is scheduled to begin Friday at 8:30 a.m., with the men and women's heptathlon. The field events are set to begin on at 3 p.m., Friday with the women's weight throw and the men's pole vault. The track events are slated to get underway an hour later with the women's mile.
A Look Back ... Both the SFA men and women's teams scored 95 points to finish second at the 2004 SLC Indoor Championships. The Ladyjacks recorded 11 All-Southland Conference honors at the meet while the men posted seven All-SLC finishes and recorded two champions (Paul Todd in the high jump and the distance medley relay team).
Provisional Qualifier Senior high jumper Teresa Murray has posted an NCAA regional qualifying mark in her first meet of the season. Murray cleared a school-record height of 5-10.50 in the high jump at the Leonard Hilton Invitational to qualify.
Lumberjacks Among the SLC Leaders Julian Acuna leads the SLC in the 3,000 meters with his time of 8:24.90. Teammate Marc Farris is not too far behind sitting third in the league with a time of 8:37.37 in the event. Acuna and Farris own the top two spots in the 5,000 meters heading into the SLC meet, respectively. Acuna has recorded a time of 15:21.43, Farris is second overall with his 15:30.89. Senior Matt Albertson is currently fifth in the event (15:44.59). Sophomore Reggie Lazenby enters the SLC meet with the league's fourth-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles (8.10). Newcomers Cale Trail and Carlious Owens are both tied for fifth in the league's high jump standings heading into the championship meet. Senior DeVaughn Rettig is third in the SLC's triple jump standings (24-00.25), but tops in the SLC in the triple jump with his mark of 47-11.25. Junior Kenneth McKinley is second in the shot put with his mark of 54-9.25, while sophomore Darwin Johnson enters the meet second in the league's weight throw standings with his toss of 55-9.00.
Lumberjacks Among the SLC Leaders Junior Stevina Wyatt is currently third in the SLC 400-meter dash standings with her time of 56.81. Senior Ana Rodriguez is currently second in the mile run with a time of 5:00.98. Rodriguez currently leads the league's 3,000-meter standings with her time of 9:54.50. She is just ahead of teammate Ashley Monteau who is currently second with a time of 9:57.69. Monteau leads the SLC in the 5,000 meters with her time of 18:12.14. Amber Bagwell is currently third in the 5,000 meters with her time of 18:37.92. The Ladyjacks have two of the league's top three high jumpers in seniors Teresa Murray and Jocelyn Stevens. Murray is second in the league (5-10.50) just ahead of Stevens who has a season-best mark of 5-8.50. Newcomer Kristina Windham is currently second in the league's pole vault standings clearing a season-best height of 11-9.75. Sophomore Markeisha Edwards is currently second in the shot put (46-6.25) and weight throw (50-1.75). Junior Crystal Chang is currently second in the pentathlon with her score of 3,587 points, while senior Lindsey Bryson is fifth with a score of 3,318.
Up Next ... If SFA has any athletes advance to the NCAA Championships, the meet will take place on Friday Mar.11 through Saturday Mar. 12 in Fayetteville, Ark. Senior Teresa Murray is a provisional qualifier for the championship meet in the women's high jump.
