NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack head basketball coach Danny Kaspar announced the signing of Corwin Ragland on Friday. Ragland, a 6-1, 195-lb. guard, is the Lumberjacks' only addition during the early signing period.
Ragland will join SFA next season after completing his sophomore year at Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz. As a freshman last season, Ragland averaged 14.1 points and 4.1 assists per game. He also recorded 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per contest.
"Corwin is an athletic point guard with very good offensive skills and the ability to play the kind of defense we like to see," Kaspar said. "He's also six-foot one, 195 pounds, and strong and durable."
Ragland's efforts last season helped lead Yavapai to a 17-13 record and a tie for third place in the 15-team Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. The Roughriders, under the guidance of head coach Howard Brown, were chosen fourth in the conference's preseason poll.
"Corwin has shown good leadership skills for Yavapai, and he was very instrumental in their success as a freshman," Kaspar said. "We're looking for immediate help from him."
Ragland is a Dallas native, but he attended high school at A.B. Miller in Fontana, Calif. There, he was a four-year varsity player for head coach John Romagnoli.
"We were fortunate to find Corwin," Kaspar said. "His family recently moved back to Dallas, and he wanted to be close to them, so they could come watch him play."
