PLANO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin juniors Cody Clark and Ashley Monteau were named the Southland Conference cross country Athletes of the Year, leading a list of seven Lumberjack and Ladyjack athletes named to the All-SLC teams, announced by conference officials on Tuesday. Clark was named the Male Athlete of the Year for leading his team to its fifth consecutive SLC championship with an individual title, and Monteau was named the Female Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row after winning her second straight individual conference crown.
Four other Lumberjacks joined Clark on the all-conference team -- the first time in school history that all five SFA runners have finished in the Top 10 at the conference meet. Freshmen Teddy Fanta and Cole Hollingsworth and juniors Chance Edwards and Rodney Joseph finished fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth, respectively, to secure the league title.
Monteau's individual championship led a second-place Ladyjack effort that saw SFA land two All-SLC selections. Monteau has won three of the four races she's competed in this season. Sophomore Katrina Nicholas finished in fifth place to earn all-conference honors for the first time in her career.
SFA cross country coach Lou Snelling was named men's coach of the year for the third consecutive time after guiding his squad to its fifth straight league title.
The Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks will return to action for the NCAA South Central Regional in Waco, Texas on Nov. 12.
