NATCHITOCHES, La. - Led by another first-place finish from junior Ashley Monteau, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack cross country team blew away the field Monday at the Northwestern State Invitational, winning the event by a 53-point margin. SFA took five of the top six positions -- including a sweep of first through fourth place -- to finish with a score of 16 points, one point off a perfect outing.
Monteau, fresh off her individual victory in the Rice Invitational two weeks ago, led the charge, completing the 6,000-meter course in 21:36.75. Sophomore Katrina Nicholas chased Monteau with a second-place time of 23:44.33, and sophomore Amber Bagwell was third, finishing in 24:08.51.
Junior Kimbri Lettkeman crossed the line fourth with a time of 24:12.14, and sophomore Kirsten Wieseman took sixth place with her time of 24:55.90. Junior LaKoa McKeever finished the race in 25:38.88 to take ninth place.
Several SFA men's runners also competed in the meet, led by freshman Gerardo Moreno and junior Daniel Williams, who finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 8,000-meter race. Moreno clocked in at 27:53.56, and Williams finished in 28:02.81.
Senior Julian Acuna and freshmen Teddy Fanta and Keith Mahipala also ran in the meet.
SFA's next scheduled competition is on Oct. 15 at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
