
Track & Field Heads to Baton Rouge

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team looks to continue its impressive start to the 2005 indoor season on Friday when they travel to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the Bayou Bengal Invitational. The Lumberjacks will be traveling 18 athletes while the women will be taking 14 to Baton Rouge. Field events will begin at 3 p.m., from the LSU Fieldhouse with the women's weight throw. The track events get under way at 6 p.m., with the women's distance medley relay.
A Recap of the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational: SFA kicked off the indoor season last week at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational in Houston, Texas. The Lumberjacks recorded eight top five marks and a school record, while the Ladyjacks recorded seven top-five marks, three school records, two individual titles, and one NCAA provisional qualifier. The Ladyjacks star was senior Teresa Murray who cleared a school-record height of 5-10.50 in the high jump to finish second overall. Murray's mark was good enough for an NCAA provisional mark.
Lumberjacks in the League: The Lumberjacks made a good impression in the Southland Conference's top 10 in the first week of the season. Freshman Johnny Thacker is currently third in the league with a time of 6.84 in the 60-meter dash. Juniors Julian Acuna (15:21.43) and Marc Farris (15:30.89) own the top two times in the 5,000 meters, while Matt Albertson is fifth (15:44.59) in the event. Senior Jonathan James is currently tied for fifth in the conference in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.22. Cale Trail is tied for fourth in the league with his mark of 6-4.00 in the high jump. Senior DeVaughn Rettig leads the league in the triple jump with his mark of 47-11.25. Junior Kenneth McKinley is second in the shot put with a toss of 53-5.50. Darwin Johnson is currently third in weight throw (51-11.00).
Ladyjacks in the League: Junior Stevina Wyatt is fourth in the 400-meters dash with a time of 58.70. Senior Ana Rodriguez is currently second in the mile with her school-record time of 5:00.98. Sophomore Ashley Monteau is currently tops in the 5,000 meters (18:12.14), while teammate Amber Bagwell is third (18:37.92) overall in the event. Senior Jocelyn Stevens is currently fifth in the 60-meter hurdles, only .07 seconds ahead of teammate Stevina Wyatt. Stevens is also third in the high jump (5-8.50) behind teammate Teresa Murray (5-10.50). Freshman Meghan Denman is currently fifth clearing a height of 5-4.50. Newcomers Kristina Windham (11-9.75) and Emylee Hartwig (10-10.00) are currently second and third in pole vault. Sophomore Markeisha Edwards is leading the league in the shot put with her throw of 46-6.25. Edwards is also currently fourth in the league with her school-record throw of 48-5.50 in the weight throw.
