Lumberjacks Defeat Nicholls State

THIBODAUX - Junior point guard Marcus Clark scored a career-high 29 points as the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team beat Nicholls State, 85-67, Wednesday night in Thibodaux. The career-high effort was Clark's third consecutive game of scoring at least 20 points.
The Lumberjacks led by 11 points at halftime, despite struggling at the free-throw line shooting only 3-of-11 (27 percent). But Lumberjacks were able to build and hold their advantage shooting 14-of-33 (.424) and only turning the ball over twice in the first half.
The Lumberjacks came out in the second half and turned up the pressure, Clark and sophomore Josh Porter led SFA to a second-half offensive explosion as Porter finished the game with 19 points. The Lumberjacks went through a stretch in the second half that saw them connect on eight consecutive shots and 11-of-12, as SFA pushed its advantage to 20 points.
The Lumberjacks held Nicholls State to a 21-of-50 (42 percent) shooting performance and outrebounded the Colonels, 35-33, in the victory.
Junior Anthony Paez added 11 points for the Lumberjacks.
The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday evening when they return home to host Lamar. The game against the Cardinals is schedule to begin 30 minutes following the Ladyjacks' 4 p.m., game against the Lady Cardinals in the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
