'Jacks Win At Line Over UL-Monroe

MONROE, La. -- Marcus Clark and Josh Porter had the big games they needed to have for the Lumberjacks as SFA evened its conference mark at 1-1 on the season with a 67-59 win over UL-Monroe (6-8, 0-3) Thursday night, in Monroe, La. Clark was a perfect 15-15 at the free throw line and finished with 23 points and Porter was nine of 14 from the field and 2-2 at the stripe to finish with a game high 24 points to lead the Lumberjacks.
SFA led by six at the half and quickly stretched the lead to as many as 13 points early in the second half only to go cold from the field which allowed UL-Monroe to get back in the game. The Indians tied the game at 56-56 on a lay-up by Daryl Mason with 3:49 to play, but five straight points by Marcus Clark quickly put SFA ahead by a comfortable margin. Clark and Porter combined to go 6-6 at the line in the final minute of play to seal the win. Clark was 4-4 at the stripe in the last :27 of play.
No other Lumberjack finished with more than four points in the game.
The Lumberjacks evened things up on the boards with the Indians with each team pulling down 29 rebounds. Taylor Moore led SFA with a game high 10 rebounds.
The 'Jacks forced 15 UL-Monroe turnovers while committing 14 and outscored the Indians 20-8 in points off turnovers.
The 19-19 line at the night marks the second time this season SFA has been perfect at the free throw line. The 'Jacks were a perfect 20-20 at the line in the season opener against South Florida. These are the only two times in SFA's basketball history a Lumberjack team has been perfect at the line when attempting more than 10 free throws in a game.
