BATON ROUGE, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team lost a tough game to Louisiana State, 2-1, in double overtime Wednesday night in Baton Rouge, La. The Ladyjacks are now 1-2 (.333) on the season.
Senior Christie Mestayer gave the Ladyjacks an early 1-0 lead when she scored an unassisted goal in the 17th minute of the game. It would be all the scoring either team would see for the next 65 minutes of the contest. Junior goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki recorded another solid game in the net recording 10 saves in the game.
But the Tigers mounted a late rally when Artie Brown scored a goal with less than six minutes left on the clock and would eventually send the game into overtime. LSU was back on the attack in the second overtime when Brown netted the gamewinner in the104th minute.
"I'm very proud of our team tonight," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "We executed our game plan really well but just came up a little short. LSU is a great team and they run and excellent system here but our young ladies played tough all night. I'm excited about where this team is headed."
The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday when they host Centenary College. The game against the Ladies is scheduled to get under way at 2 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex.
