JONESBORO, Ark. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team improved to 4-0 Saturday morning after defeating Arkansas-Little Rock, 3-1 (28-30, 30-28, 30-27, 30-14). But the Ladyjacks lost their first match of the season in a heart-breaker to tournament-host Arkansas State, 3-2 (30-23, 26-30, 30-16, 24-30, 15-10), Saturday afternoon. The Ladyjacks are now 4-1 (.800) on the season. SFA dominated the Trojans defensively recording 13 total blocks and holding UALR to a .105 attack percentage. Senior Brittany Burton led the way for SFA as she recorded a match-high 17 kills and also added three blocks. Burton was one of four Ladyjacks to record double-figure kills. Junior Lauren Stevens added 14 kills, while classmate Amelia Mayeaux notched 10 kills and a match-high four blocks. The afternoon match against the home-standing Arkansas State Lady Indians became a tight battle that was split, 1-1, heading into halftime. After falling behind, 2-1, SFA fought back to win game four, 30-24, behind Burton's team-high 19 kills to force a fifth and final game. Game five remained close behind Stevens' 15 kills and four blocks but it wasn't enough as ASU's Giedre Tarnauskaite recorded match-high 22 kills and 22 digs to win the game and the match. SFA returns to action Friday when they travel to Birmingham, Ala., to face UAB in the first round of the UAB Tournament. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m. -SFA-
