NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team put an end to its minor slump and picked up their first Southland Conference victory Saturday afternoon, knocking off Texas-San Antonio, 3-0 (30-25, 30-27, 31-29). The Ladyjacks are now 8-3 (.727) overall and 1-2 (.333) in league play.
The Ladyjacks relied on a strong serving performance to propel them to victory over UTSA. Five different players recorded a service ace, led by sophomore Laura Cramer who finished with a match-high four, as SFA finished the night with 12 service aces. Cramer was also a spark for SFA at the net recording a team-high 12 kills and 11 digs.
UTSA tried to fight its way back into the contest jumping out to a 16-8 lead behind Brittany Hildebrand's 13 kills. But SFA fought right back with a solid defense, recording 15 total blocks to reclaim the lead and eventually take the match.
The Ladyjacks return to action Tuesday when they step outside the conference to host Southern Methodist. The match against the Mustangs is slated to get under way at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
