NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball coach Danny Kaspar announced today the hiring of Michael Lewis as the third assistant on the SFA basketball coaching staff for the coming year. Lewis fills the spot left vacant when Darren Kohne was promoted to the number two spot earlier this summer.
"Michael's experience as both a player and an assistant coach under Bobby Knight has taught him a great deal about basketball. I'm excited about him joining our coaching staff and look forward to working with him this season," said Kaspar.
Lewis, a 2000 graduate of Indiana University, played four seasons for the Hoosiers earning third team All-Big 10 honors in 2000. He is the all-time assists leader in IU history and was also the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year as a high school senior in 1996. Following his playing career at Indiana, Lewis spent two seasons playing professionally in the CBA, USBL and in Europe.
He has spent the past two years as a graduate assistant at Texas Tech, working for Coach Knight. The Red Raiders won at least 20 games in each of Lewis' two seasons in Lubbock.
Lewis will assist the Lumberjack coaching staff in all phases of the game.
