RUSTON, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team kicked off the 2004 season in victorious fashion Wednesday night, defeating Louisiana Tech, 3-1 (30-20, 29-31, 30-27, 30-23). The win marks the third time in the last four seasons that SFA has started the season with a victory. SFA won game one behind junior Amelia Mayeaux's 17 kills and three blocks. The Lady Techsters fought right back to tie the match at one game a piece, but the Ladyjacks took control from that point. Senior Brittany Burton recorded 13 kills (.500 attack percentage) and two blocks to give SFA a 2-1 advantage heading into the final game. SFA cruised in the fourth game winning, 30-23, for the victory. Sophomore Laura Cramer recorded 10 kills, eight digs and three blocks in a victorious effort. Sophomore Stephanie Figgers picked up where she left off last season leading the team 19 digs. The Lady Techsters were led by Natalie Shipp who recorded a match-high 18 kills. The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they travel to Jonesboro, Ark., to compete in the Arkansas State Tournament. The Ladyjacks will face Austin Peay Friday at 11 a.m., in the first round of the tournament. -SFA-
