NACOGDOCHES - It didn't take long for the defending Southland Conference Tournament Champion Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team to pick up its first victory of the season, shutting out Arkansas State, 2-0, Friday night. SFA was on the attack early as senior Christie Mestayer netted the game's first goal in the 22nd minute on a pass from classmate Sarah Johnson. SFA wasn't satisfied with only one goal as junior Kendra Cannon scored her first goal of the season less than six minutes later to give SFA a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime. The two-goal cushion would be all junior Natascia Michalezki would need as she went the distance recording the shutout victory. Michalezki faced only 13 shots, recording six saves. The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday afternoon to face Oral Roberts. The game against ORU is slated to get underway at 2 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex. -SFA-
