
SFA Signs Cheves To Basketball Scholarship

NACOGDOCHES, Texas-- Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball coach Danny Kaspar has announced the signing of Jerry Cheves, a 6-3 guard from Finger Lakes Community College, to a scholarship offer to attend SFA and play basketball for the 'Jacks next fall.
The 6-3 Cheves was a first team all-conference and second team all-region selection as a sophomore at Finger Lakes Community College last season after averaging 19.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Cheves also added just over three assists and 1.3 steals per game. He leaves Finger Lakes as the all-time leader in three point field goals with 157 and also set the school single season record with 88 three point baskets.
He finished his junior college career as the school's fifth all-time leading scorer with 891 points and also recorded 115 assists his freshman year. During his two year career, Cheves shot just over 41 percent from beyond the three point arc and 43 percent from the field. He is also a 73 percent free throw shooter.
Cheves was a standout high school player at Brockport Central High School where he was a first team all-county and an All-Greater Rochester selection. He averaged 17 points, six rebounds and three assists per game in his high school career.
