
'Jacks Sign Two Junior College Transfers

NACOGDOCHES, Texas-- Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball coach Danny Kaspar announced today that Anthony Paez, a 6-6 forward from Central Florida Community College in Ocala, Florida, and Justin Thomas, a 6-5 forward from Tallahassee Community College, have signed letters of intent to play basketball and continue their education at the university next fall.
Paez was the Mid-Florida Conference Player of the Year this past season as a sophomore when he averaged 17.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He was also a first team All-Region 8 selection as a sophomore and was a third team NJCAA All-American. As a freshman, Paez averaged just over 16 points per game and pulled down six rebounds per game on his way to first team All-Mid Florida Conference honors.
In his two seasons at Central Florida CC, Paez scored 1,030 points placing him third on the all-time scoring list at the school.
He was a three year starter at Lehigh Senior High School and was the Southwest Florida Player of the Year in 2002. He was also a third team all-state selection his senior season.
Thomas averaged 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game as a freshman earning honorable mention All-Panhandle Conference honors. As a sophomore at Tallahassee, Thomas averaged 13.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He has also averaged over 1.3 steals per game during his first two years. Thomas went to high school in Griffin, Georgia and was a 5-A Region IV First Team selection, averaging 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as a senior. He also averaged just two steals per game.
Both Paez and Thomas will enroll at the university next fall.
