
DeVaughn Rettig Advances to NCAAs

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team wrapped up the 2004 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships Saturday afternoon qualifying one more athlete for the NCAA Championships. Senior DeVaughn Rettig recorded a jump of 53-0.75 in the triple jump to earn an automatic berth at the NCAA Championships.
Freshman Wade Whittington finished his freshman season with a 10th-place finish in the javelin. Whittington recorded a throw of 198-02 in the event.
The Ladyjacks were led by junior Jocelyn Stevens who scored two points for the Ladyjacks in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:01.83. Stevens and classmate Teresa Murray competed in the high jump. Murray recorded a 14th-place finish with her jump of 5-6.50 while Stevens finished 21st (5-6.50) overall. Senior Blake Gordon recorded an 11th-place finish in the shot put, recording a throw of 46-11.50. Classmate Vicky Jannise finished off her career with a 15th-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Jannise recorded a time of 11:51.02 in the event.
Rettig will join Ladyjack Ana Rodriguez, who qualified in the women's 5,000 meters Friday afternoon, at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas. The meet will begin June 9th and go through June 12th.
