
Track & Field Heads to SLC Championships

NACOGDOCHES - The SFA men and women's track and field teams will be in San Marcos, Saturday through Monday competing at the SLC Outdoor Championships. The meet gets underway Saturday at 11 a.m., with the decathlon. The Ladyjacks will get underway approximately 30 minutes later in the heptathlon.
A Look Back The SLC Outdoor Championships will be in San Marcos for the second-straight year. The Ladyjacks will be heading back looking to defend the title they won at the 2003 meet, outscoring its closest competition by 35 points. The Ladyjacks also earned 17 all-conference honors and six SLC Individual titles.
Ladyjacks in the League Two Ladyjacks appear among the league's top five in the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Stevina Wyatt (14.03) is third and freshman Leah Matthews (14.18) is fifth. Junior Jocelyn Stevens leads the league in the 400-meter hurdles with her time of 1:00.41. Wyatt is second in the league clocking a season-best time of 1:02.20. Stevens is also second in the conference in the high jump with a mark of 5-8.00. Stevens is tied with classmate Teresa Murray who also has a season-best jump of 5-8.00. Junior Ana Rodriguez is fifth in the 1,500 meters with her time of 4:35.67. Rodriguez also leads the league in the 5,000-meter run (16:45.28). Freshman Ashley Monteau is third in the 5,000 meters with her time of 17:16.00. A couple of veteran runners are among the SLC's top five in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Senior Vicky Jannise is fourth (11:12.20) while junior Jessica Partin is fifth with a time of 11:22.79. Senior Jennifer Schreiner enters her final conference championship meet second in the pole vault with a season-best jump of 12-10.00. Senior Blake Gordon is second in the league in both the shot put (49-6.25) and the discus (164-07). Sophomore Crystal Chang currently stands second in the SLC in the heptathlon with her score of 4,936 points.
Lumberjacks in the League Senior Alex Beckworth is fifth in the league in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best performance of 53.10. Senior Justin Meier and sophomore Chance Edwards are among the league's top five in the 1,500 meters. Meier currently sits fourth with a time of 3:52.49, while Edwards is fifth only a couple seconds back. The Lumberjacks are dominating the 3,000-meter steeplechase with seniors Mike Thompson (9:09.65) and Nathan Flores (9:13.10) owning the top-two spots. Meier leads the league in the 5,000 meters (14:30.48), while Flores is third (14:44.99) and sophomore Julian Acuna is fourth (14:53.70). Flores also leads the league in the 10,000 meters with his time of 29:49.30. Sophomore Marc Farris is third in the 10,000 meters (31:30.23), while junior Matt Albertson is fourth (31:59.08). The Lumberjacks also have the league's top 4X100-meter relay team posting a season-best time of 40.80. Senior Paul Todd is currently in a three-way tie atop the league standings in the high jump, clearing a season-best height of 6-10.75. Sophomore Michael Ludlow is currently fifth in the SLC with his mark of 15-7.00 in the pole vault. Sophomore Kenneth McKinley is currently fifth in the shot put with his toss of 52-2.00. Freshman Darwin Johnson is fourth in the conference in the discus with a throw of 169-10. Freshman Wade Whittington is leading the conference in the javelin with his throw of 206-4. Senior Justin Connell is currently fifth in the league in the decathlon with his season-best score of 6,720 points.
