
SFA Records Five NCAA Regional Marks

FT. WORTH, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team competed at the TCU Invitational Saturday recording three individual titles and four NCAA Regional marks. SFA also sent three athletes to the Mt. SAC Relays.
Senior Blake Gordon led the Ladyjacks recording regional marks in both the shot put (49-6.25) and the discus (162-9). Gordon's throw in the discus was good enough to win the event. Other Ladyjacks that had strong performances at TCU were junior Jocelyn Stevens who won the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.16) and finished fifth in the high jump clearing a height of 5-6. Sophomore Stevina Wyatt finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.16. Wyatt came right back to finish third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.03). Senior Jennifer Schreiner won the pole vault by clearing a height of 12-5.50, improving her NCAA Regional mark. Freshman Markeisha Edwards finished fourth in the shot put with her mark of 46-2.50.
Freshman Darwin Johnson led the Lumberjacks with his second-place finish in the discus. Johnson recorded an NCAA Regional mark with his throw of 169-10. Senior Alex Beckworth finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.42. Senior Paul Todd finished fourth in the high jump with his mark of 6-8.75. Senior DeVaughn Rettig finish fifth in the triple jump with his mark of 48-3.50.
Three SFA distance runners competed at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., Saturday. Senior Justin Meier recorded a time of 14:30.48 in the 5,000 meters to win his heat and set a new school record. Junior Ana Rodriguez set a school record and recorded an NCAA regional mark in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:45.28. Senior Nathan Flores recorded a time of 29:49.30 in the 10,000 meters.
SFA returns to action Saturday in Houston at the Rice/Runsport Twilight meet.
