
Jessica Partin Sets SFA Record in Steeplechase

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team had a strong day Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas. SFA recorded three school records, three NCAA Regional qualifying marks and one individual title at the meet.
Junior Jessica Partin led the Ladyjacks with her individual title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Partin recorded a time of 11:22.79 to win the event and set a new SFA record. Sophomore Colleen Lonergan also set a new school record in the hammer throw with her mark of 135-04. Senior Jennifer Schreiner recorded an NCAA regional mark in the pole vault when she cleared a height of 12-3.50 to finish third overall. Senior Blake Gordon also recorded an NCAA regional mark in the shot put. Gordon recorded a toss of 47-1.50 to finish fourth in the event.
Freshman Wade Whittington led the Lumberjacks recording an SFA record throw of 206-04. Senior Paul Todd was fifth in the high jump, clearing a height of 6-8.75.
Sophomores Crystal Chang and Bo Simpson competed at the ASU Drake Noble Relays at Angelo State. Chang scored 4,709 points to finish fourth in the heptathlon, while Simpson scored 6,450 points to finish fifth in the decathlon.
SFA returns to action Saturday April 17th, when they travel to Fort Worth, Texas to compete in the TCU Invitational.
