SFA Loses To Jackson State 58-54

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The home court at the William R. Johnson Coliseum wasn't the cure for what is ailing the Lumberjack basketball team as Jackson State beat the 'Jacks 58-54 Saturday evening. The loss snaps a 31-game home court winning streak - which was the nation's longest - and extends SFA's losing streak to three straight.
The 'Jacks led 29-24 at the half and was in control of the game in spite of 10 first half turnovers. Taylor Moore, making his second straight start, had 15 first half points to carry the 'Jacks to the halftime lead. Moore scored only two points after the half however as Jackson State battled back and took the lead for good at the 8:25 mark of the second half on a free throw by Antonio Parker-Williams.
SFA did manage to tie the score three times down the stretch, but could never regain the lead from the Tigers. The Lumberjacks did not score a field goal for the final 4:12 of the game. Leonard Brown knocked down a three pointer with 4:12 remaining to bring SFA to within three at 49-46 and the 'Jacks did not get a basket from the field from that point on.
Hilton Tompkins hit a jump shot with :24 left to break a 54-54 tie and give Jackson State its final lead. With seconds remaining, Marcus Clark had a short jump shot blocked by Kelly Ross which Ross took the length of the court as time expired for a dunk for the final margin.
Moore led the 'Jacks with 17-points, while Anthony Paez added 11. Marcus Clark had eight points and Josh Porter scored seven for the 'Jacks. Paez also led the 'Jacks on the boards with eight rebounds, Moore added six. Jackson State outrebounded SFA 34-26 and also outscored the Lumberjacks 22-8 on second chance points.
