
SFA Volleyball Beats Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team won its 15 consecutive match by defeating Northwestern State, 3-1, Tuesday night in Natchitoches, La. The Ladyjacks are now 23-5 (.821) on the season and 15-3 (.833) in the Southland Conference. More importantly, the victory keeps SFA in a tie for first-place with Texas State in the SLC standings.
After dropping the first game, 31-29, the Ladyjacks battled right back to win game two, 30-23, behind 21 kills (.459 attack percentage) from sophomore Laura Cramer. She also added 18 digs. The Ladyjacks had to rally again in game three, trailing 26-21, SFA rattled off seven-straight points to take the lead and eventually the game.
Senior Brittany Burton and junior Amelia Mayeaux applied the knockout punch in game four recording 11 kills and five blocks each to give SFA a 30-23 decision for the match. Sophomore Stephanie Figgers added 15 digs while freshman JJ Jones led all players with 36 assists.
The Ladyjacks return to Nacogdoches to close out the 2004 regular season with two home matches. SFA will host McNeese State Friday night before taking on Lamar in the regular-season finale. Both matches will start at 7 p.m., in the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
