NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team keeps rolling along as it defeated McNeese State, 3-0 (30-27, 30-17, 30-17), Friday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks have now won their last 16 matches, but more importantly SFA is only one match away from winning at least a share of the Southland Conference title.
SFA started slow in game one as the Cowgirls built a 26-21 lead. But the Ladyjacks rallied behind sophomore Laura Cramer's 14 kills (.345 attack percentage) and nine digs to claim a three-point victory. The Ladyjack comeback took the wind out of the visitor's sails, as SFA had no problems in games two or three.
Senior Brittany Burton led a stingy defensive effort as SFA recorded 23 blocks on the night led by Burton's season-high nine. She also added 10 kills. Sophomore Stephanie Figgers put together another dazzling performance recording a match-high 22 digs. Figgers was one of four Ladyjacks to finish the night with double-figure digs.
McNeese State was led by Lindsey Petzold's 11 kills, while Nicole James added 19 digs.
The Ladyjacks will return to the court Saturday to take on Lamar. The match against the Lady Cardinals is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
An SFA win Saturday night would guarantee at least a share of the Southland Conference title. The Ladyjacks are now 24-5 (.828) overall and 16-3 (.842) in Southland Conference play.
