NACOGDOCHES - Seniors Brittany Burton and Deborah Kirkham led SFA with 15 kills each, as the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team ousted Texas-Arlington, 3-0 (32-30, 30-22, 30-27), Friday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks have now won 13 consecutive matches, including five consecutive shutout victories.
The first game was a tough battle but the Ladyjacks seemed in control from the start. Sophomore Laura Cramer recorded 13 kills as the Ladyjacks took a 1-0 advantage and never really allowed UTA back in the match. Junior Lauren Stevens came off the bench to provide an extra spark, recording 13 kills (.400 attack percentage).
The Ladyjacks offense was nearly unstoppable finishing the night with a .312 attack percentage. Four Ladyjacks finished the night with a .300 or better attack percentage, led by Burton's .481 average.
SFA also played strong on defense, holding the Lady Mavericks to a .219 attack percentage. Three Ladyjacks recorded double-figure digs led by sophomore Stephanie Figgers' 22 digs.
The Ladyjacks will return to the court Saturday evening to take on arch rival Sam Houston State. The match against the Bearkats is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
