
`Jacks Finish Fifth at NCAA Regional Meet

WACO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's cross country team competed Saturday afternoon at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships in Waco, Texas. The Lumberjacks scored 149 points to finish fifth out of 18 teams while the Ladyjacks scored 212 points to finish seventh overall.
The Lumberjacks were led by junior Julian Acuna who finished ninth overall with his time of 30:26 to earn all-region honors. Acuna's time was good enough to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet Nov. 22, in Terre Haute, Ind. Junior Marc Farris was the second Lumberjack to cross the finish line with his time of 31:19. Farris was 24th overall and also earned all-region honors. Rodney Joseph was only 10 seconds off Farris' pace to finish 29th overall. Chance Edwards was the fourth Lumberjack to score finishing 35th overall with a time of 31:40. Senior Matt Albertson was the Lumberjacks fifth and final scorer, crossing the finish line 53rd overall (32:32).
The Ladyjacks were led by sophomore Ashley Monteau who recorded her second all-region honor in as many seasons. Monteau finished 11th overall with her time of 21:02. Freshman Amber Bagwell was the second Ladyjack to cross the finish line with a time of 22:14. Bagwell's time was good enough for 44th place. Senior Jessica Partin was the Ladyjacks' third scorer finishing 47th overall with a time of 22:19. Freshman Savannah Matzinger was the fourth Ladyjack to finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 22:39 to place 59th overall. Senior Emily Hufstedler was the Ladyjacks' fifth finisher. Hufstedler crossed the line 67th overall with a time of 22:48.
