NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's cross country teams will be in Waco, Texas, Saturday to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional Championships. The meet will take place at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course and hosted by Baylor. The women's race will be a 6,000-meter course that will begin at 10 a.m. The men's race will begin approximately an hour and 15 minutes later and will cover 10,000 meters. The top two teams in each race will receive an automatic berth at the NCAA Championships.
Last season, the Lumberjacks just missed the automatic berth by four points finishing third overall. But the Lumberjacks did send Mike Thompson and Nathan Flores to the NCAA Championships to run individually. The Ladyjacks also recorded their best finish at last year's regional championships. The Ladyjacks finished seventh overall despite the loss of their top runner to an injury late in the race.
Should SFA qualify for the NCAA Championships, the meet will take place Monday Nov. 22, in Terre Haute, Ind. The race will be run at the Wabash Valley Sports Center.
