NACOGDOCHES - The 2004 Southland Conference Champion Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team closes out the regular-season Friday night against McNeese State. The Ladyjacks enter the final game of the regular season with a 10-4-3 (.676) overall record and an 8-1-2 (.818) SLC mark. The Cowgirls enter the game with a 4-12-1 (.265) overall record and 2-8-1 (.227) league record. While the Ladyjacks have already wrapped up the top spot in the league tournament, The Cowgirls needs a win to stay in the playoff hunt. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from SFA Intramural Complex.
Good-bye Seniors: Ladyjack fans will have their final opportunity to come out and say thank you and good-bye to the SFA Class of 2004 Friday night as six seniors will be participating in their final home game. The seniors are Sarah Johnson, Lauren Matkin, Christie Mestayer, Sophia Pantazis, Sarah Roderick and Ashley Coleman. The 2004 senior class has recorded a 42-26-10 (.603) overall record during their four seasons.
Brick Wall: Junior goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki has posted another great season as the Ladyjacks' last line of defense. Michalezki is currently among the league leaders in wins, shutouts, saves and goals against average. With her four saves in the victory over Southeastern Louisiana last Sunday, Michalezki now has 114 on the season. If she records one more save this year, she will have recorded the third-best single-season saves mark in SFA history and will also own the top-three single-season marks.
Senior Leadership: The term "senioritis" does not exist in Christie Mestayer vocabulary. The 5-5 senior from Houston, Texas is closing out her final season in a purple and white uniform with a career year. She currently leads the team in points (30) and assists (10) and is tied for second on the team with 10 goals. All three marks rank among the league leaders. Mestayer's 10 assists this season set a new single-season school record, which was set last season by redshirt junior Sara Hernandez.
Up Next ... Regardless of the outcome of Friday night's match, the Ladyjacks have locked up the top seed and a first-round bye in the 2004 Southland Conference Tournament. The tournament will be held Nov. 4-7, in Hammond, La.
