NACOGDOCHES - The prize that alluded the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team by only two points last season was realized Sunday afternoon in Hammond, La., in front of the team that won the title last year. The Ladyjacks defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 3-1, wrapping up the team's first conference regular-season title in six years and the program's third overall.
The Ladyjacks will conclude the 2004 regular season Friday night with they host McNeese State. Senior night activities will begin at 7 p.m., at the SFA Intramural Complex. The Ladyjacks enter the game with a 10-4-3 (.676) overall record and an 8-1-2 (.818) SLC mark.
The regular-season title guarantees SFA the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the SLC Championships in Hammond, La. The championship tournament will run from Thursday Nov. 4 through Monday Nov. 7.
The Ladyjacks enter the tournament looking for their second-straight SLC tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Championships. Last season, SFA was defeated in the first-round of the NCAA Championships by 12th-seeded Duke, 3-0.
