HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team got 17 kills each from sophomore Laura Cramer and senior Brittany Burton Tuesday night to defeat Sam Houston State, 3-2 (30-22, 28-30, 28-30, 30-26, 15-8). The Ladyjacks are now 15-5 (.750) overall and 7-3 (.700) in the Southland Conference. The Ladyjacks have pushed their win streak to a season-best seven-straight matches.
The Ladyjacks jumped to a 1-0 lead behind a strong offensive performance recording a .235 attack performance, but it was Sam Houston State that stole the momentum and won the next two games. With their backs against the wall and the win streak on the line SFA responded with a quality performance.
Freshman Jami Hill recorded 12 kills and 10 digs to help SFA to a 30-26 victory in game four to tie the match. The Ladyjacks recorded a solid defensive performance in the fifth game as sophomore Stephanie Figgers recorded a school-record 41 digs to help keep the Bearkat offense from getting anything going. The Ladyjacks recorded 17 blocks as they recorded a 15-8 game five win to take the match.
The Ladyjacks will be back in action Friday when they travel to Thibodaux, La., to take on Nicholls State in a 7 p.m., match. SFA will be looking to avenge an SLC season-opening loss to the Lady Colonels.
