Lumberjack Cross Country Finishes Second

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's cross country teams had a strong showing in their first scored meet of the season. The Lumberjacks scored 41 points to finish second overall, while the Ladyjacks posted a score of 91 to finish third out of 10 teams.
The Lumberjacks placed three runners among the field's top 10 and four among the top 11, as Julian Acuna paced SFA with a time of 26:11. Marc Farris was the second Lumberjack to cross the finish line with a time of 26:49. Farris' time was good enough for a seventh-place finish. Chance Edwards was only nine seconds back of Farris to finish eighth overall. Eric Brill was the fourth Lumberjack to finish the race recording a time of 27:18 to finish 11th. Rodney Joseph (27:21) closed out the scoring for SFA with his 12th-place finish.
The Ladyjacks were led by a youthful attack as all five of the team's scorer were sophomores or younger. Sophomore Ashley Monteau paced the Ladyjacks as she was the individual runner-up, posting a time of 17:24. Amber Bagwell was the second Ladyjack to cross the finish line, recording a time of 18:47 to finish 11th overall. Freshman Savannah Matzinger finished 24th overall with a time of 19:12. Kimbri Lettkeman was only four seconds back of Matzinger to finish 26th overall. Kirsten Wieseman was the final Ladyjack to cross the finish line with her time of 19:30.
SFA returns to action Saturday Oct. 16th, when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Chili Pepper Invitational.
