
SFA Track & Field Opens at Houston

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams kicked off the 2004 indoor season Friday night at the Leonard Hilton Invitational in Houston, Texas.
Senior Nathan Flores is picking up in track where he left off during the cross country season. Flores set the pace in the in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the finish line first with a time of 15:22.21. Flores was one of five Lumberjacks to finish among the top 10. Senior Matt Albertson finished fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:43.71.
Junior Scott Reid also had a strong start to the season with his third-place finish in the weight throw. Reid recorded a mark of 44-7.50.
Other Lumberjacks recording top finishes at the meet were freshman Alex Harris who was fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.49 and senior DeVaughn Rettig who finished fourth in the long jump. Rettig recorded a jump of 22-9.75.
The Ladyjacks placed two among the field's top five in the high jump. Junior Teresa Murray was fourth with her jump of 5-4.25. Classmate Jocelyn Stevens also recorded a 5-4.25 but finished fifth overall based on the tie-breaker. Junior Ana Rodriguez led the Ladyjacks in the 5,000 meters with her fifth-place finish. She recorded a time of 18:12.39. Senior Jennifer Schreiner opened up the indoor season with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault. Schreiner cleared a height of 11-9.75.
SFA returns to action Friday when it travels to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Invitational.
