NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's cross country teams begins defense of its 2002 Southland Conference titles Monday, as they host the Lumberjack Opener. The meet will be held at the Piney Woods Country Club with the men's race beginning at 6 p.m. and the women's race following at 6:50 p.m. The meet will be a relay format that will consist of SFA, Northwestern State and Louisiana-Monroe.
Looking Back: Both SFA men and women's teams dominated the 2002 Southland Conference Cross Country Championships. The Lumberjacks won the team title and Nathan Flores was named SLC Male Athlete of the Year for his individual title. The Lumberjacks return three All-SLC runners from that squad. The Ladyjacks dominated their race in similar fashion as Ana Rodriguez guided the Ladyjacks to their fourth conference title in school history. Rodriguez was named SLC Female Athlete of the Year for winning the individual title. The Ladyjacks return both all-conference runners from that team.
Up Next ... SFA continues the 2003 season Saturday Sept. 20th, when both squads will travel to College Station, Texas to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational.
