
Ladyjacks Open Invitational with a Thrilling Win

NACOGDOCHES - Junior Brittany Burton recorded her first-career triple-double to help the Ladyjacks to a 5-game victory over Louisiana-Lafayette, 3-2 (26-30, 30-28, 30-24, 26-30, 15-7), Friday night. The Ladyjacks are now 2-3 (.400) on the season.
The Ladyjacks dropped the first game, 30-26, but battled right back behind Burton's inspirational play, to take a 2-1 lead. She finished the match with a team-high 22 kills. Junior Deborah Kirkham added 10 kills in the winning effort.
The Ragin' Cajuns didn't go down quietly, as they fought right back to tie the match at 2 and force a fifth game. ULL was led by Lesley Bermes and Hope Webre who each recorded a team-high 15 kills.
The Ladyjacks tightened up their defense in the final game to pull out the 15-7 victory to take the match. Sophomore Amelia Mayeaux recorded 13 kills to help ice the victory. After slow start, sophomore Lauren Stevens finished the match with nine kills. Freshman Lauren Adams set a new career-high with 52 assists.
In the other match, Tulsa came from behind to beat Texas-Pan American, 3-1. The SFA Invitational will continue at 9:30 a.m. Saturday when Louisiana-Lafayette faces Tulsa. The Ladyjacks return to the court at noon to face Texas-Pan American. All matches will be played at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
