Ladyjacks Fall in League Opener

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team dropped its Southland Conference opener Tuesday night to Texas-Arlington, 3-0 (30-23, 30-26, 30-19). The Ladyjacks are now 4-8 (.333) overall and 0-1 in the Southland Conference.
The Lady Mavs jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a strong offensive attack. Three UTA players recorded double-figure kills and four players recorded at least a .333 attack percentage. The Lady Mavs recorded a .331 team attack percentage Tuesday night.
The Ladyjacks hung tough in game two as junior Deborah Kirkham (Houston, Texas) led SFA with 13 kills and 12 digs. Classmate Brittany Burton added 12 kills (.417 attack percentage) but it wasn't enough as the Ladyjacks lost game two, 30-26.
Sophomore Amelia Mayeaux (League City, Texas) recorded 11 kills and two blocks, while freshman Lauren Adams (Katy, Texas) led all players with 42 assists.
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they face McNeese State. The game against the Cowgirls is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Admission is free to students.
