
Ladyjacks Fall to SMU

DALLAS, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team lost to Southern Methodist, 3-1 (28-30, 30-20, 30-17, 30-18) Friday night. The Ladyjacks are now 3-6 on the season.
SFA jumped out to a strong start taking game one, 30-28, behind junior Deborah Kirkham's 16 kills and 17 digs. But the Mustangs had a potent offensive attack, hitting a combined .273 for the night. SMU was led Beth Karasek as the Mustangs rallied to win the final three games for the victory.
Sophomores Lauren Stevens and Amelia Mayeaux had strong performances for SFA. Stevens finished the night with 10 kills, while Mayeaux added 11 kills and a team-high four blocks.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday at 10 a.m. to face Arizona State. The Ladyjacks will close out the SMU tournament with a match against Tennessee-Chattanooga at 4:30 p.m.
