Ladyjacks open season with 3-1 setback at UTEP

EL PASO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team got the 2003 season underway Friday afternoon against Texas-El Paso. The Miners topped SFA, 3-1 (30-23, 30-24, 25-30, 30-21).
The Ladyjacks were hurt by ball-handling miscues as they recorded 26 errors falling behind early, 2-0. But SFA battled back in the third game, winning 30-25, behind sophomore Lauren Stevens' (Schertz, Texas) team-high 10 kills. She also added 10 digs.
The Miners recaptured the momentum in the fourth and final game as they put SFA away, 30-21. The Miners were led by Jennifer Abbruzzese who finished the match with 16 kills and 17 digs.
The Ladyjacks return to action tonight against New Mexico State. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. in Las Cruces, N.M.
