NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin track and field program has hired Lou Snelling to coach its distance program, announced SFA head track and field coach Phil Olson Monday afternoon. Snelling replaces Alex Gibby who left at the beginning of the month to become the head coach at William & Mary.
Snelling comes to Nacogdoches from Indiana where he has spent the previous three years as an assistant coach with the nationally ranked Hoosier men's track and cross country teams. During his time in Bloomington, Snelling was in charge of preparing practice and competition schedules for incoming freshman as well as facilitating the day-to-day responsibilities of the IU cross country and track programs.
Snelling was a highly decorated student-athlete at Central Florida. During his time in Orlando, Snelling was a four-year letterwinner, earning all-conference and academic all-conference honors all four seasons.
Snelling earned his master's degree from Indiana in 2003 and received his bachelor's degree from Central Florida in 2000.
