
SFA Track & Field Travels to Bayou

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team will be in Baton Rouge, La., Saturday to compete in the LSU Twilight. The LSU Twilight meet will be the final preparation for SFA before the Southland Conference Championships. The field events will get underway Saturday at 1 p.m., with the women's hammer throw. The track events are slated to get started at 4 p.m., with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Ladyjacks in the League: Jessica Claiborne is currently third in the Southland Conference with her time of 11.89 in the 100-meter dash. Claiborne is also third in the triple jump (41-2.25) and fourth in the long jump (191-8.00). Shametra Boykins is currently fifth in the league in the 400 meters with her time of 56.47. Boykins is currently second in the league in the triple jump with her mark of 41-7.75. Jocelyn Stevens leads a trio of Ladyjacks among the league's top five in the 400-meter dash. Stevens has a season-best time of 1:00.52 to lead the league. She is followed by Bonnie McHan (1:03.65) in third and Stevina Wyatt (1:03.79) in fourth. Stevens is currently fifth in the high jump (5-5.00). Ana Rodriguez is tops in the league in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:14.67. Hollie Counts is currently fifth in the 10,000 meters with a time of 40:58.87. The Ladyjacks have posted the fifth-fastest time in the 4X400-meter relay with their time of 3:50.90. Kasie Query leads the SLC in the javelin with her throw of 158-04 and is second in the pole vault with a mark of 12-6.00. Teammate Jennifer Schreiner currently stands fifth in the SLC after clearing a height of 11-6.00. Blake Gordon leads the SLC in the shot put with her throw of 48-5.25. Gordon is just ahead of teammate Destine Rawls (48-00.75) who currently stands second. Gordon also leads the league in the discus with her mark of 158-04. Sarah Emerson is third in the javelin with her throw of 149-01. Tracy Schupp is currently second in the heptathlon with a point total of 4,851. She is just ahead of teammates Lindsey Bryson (4,674) and Crystal Chang (4,588).
Lumberjacks in the League: Juniors Mike Thompson and Justin Meier sit atop the league standings in the 1,500-meter run. Thompson has a season best of 3:50.81, while Meier has recorded a time of 3:51.13. Thompson also leads the SLC in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with his time of 9:04.17. Nathan Flores leads the SLC in the 10,000 meters with is time of 29:46.53 and is second in the 5,000 meters (14:45.84). Meier is also among the league leaders in the 5,000-meter run as well. He is currently third with a time of 14:55.85. Freshman Julian Acuna is second in the league in the 10,000 meters (31:23.10) and fourth in the 5,000 meters (14:59.31). Marc Farris is currently fifth in the 10,000 meters with his time of (32:37.07). Alex Beckworth is fifth in the long jump with his mark of 24-1.00. Bo Simpson is currently fourth in the decathlon with his point total of 6,302.
Next Stop, San Marcos ... The SFA track and field team will be in San Marcos, Texas, on Friday May 16th through Sunday May 18th, at the Southland Conference Championships.
