
Gordon and Boykins Win Titles At Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas -- Members of the Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition Saturday at the annual Texas Relays in Austin. SFA claimed two individual titles in field events highlighted by Shametra Boykins' title in the 'B' section of the Triple jump with a leap of 12.69 meters (41-07.75). Boykins' mark was also a school record. Boykins also placed tenth in the 'A' section of the triple jump with a near identical jump of 12.68 meters (41.07.25). Jessica Claiborne finished fourth in the 'B' section of the triple jump with a jump of 12.37 meters (40-07) to place first and fourth for the 'Jacks in the event.
Kasie Query also finished second in the 'B' section of the javelin with a throw of 46.54 meters (152-08). Query also tied for 13th in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 11.01.75. Blake Gordon finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 44.66 meters (146-06), and also claimed another individual title in the shot put with a toss of 14.41 meters (47-3.50).
Destine Rawls competed in another section of the shot put and finished tenth with a 14.42 meter (47-3.75) effort.
Ana Rodriguez posted a top ten finish with an eighth place showing the 5000 meter run against a strong field with a time of 17:45.52 on Saturday.
On the men's side, the SFA track team placed sixth in the 4x1500-meter relay, setting a school-record with a time of 15:51.51, Saturday afternoon. The other men to place for the 'Jacks both ran in the 5000-meter run with Nathan Flores finishing eighth with a time of 14:45.84. Justin Meier also finished 11th for the 'Jacks with a time of 14:55.85. Meier also set a school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with is his time of 9:04.17, which was good enough for a NCAA regional qualifying mark.
SFA hosts the Dogwood Invitational next Saturday afternoon at Homer Bryce Stadium.
