
SFA Wins Four Individual Titles at TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field teams had a strong showing at the TCU Invitational Saturday. The Ladyjacks won four individual titles in the field events, led by the throwers.
Senior Destine Rawls won the individual title in the shot put with her throw of 47-2.50. Rawls' toughest competition came from teammate Blake Gordon as she recorded a toss of 45-11.25 to finish second. Gordon came right back to win the discus with her NCAA regional qualifying throw of 158-00. Freshman Kasie Query won another pole-vaulting individual title (11-9.75), finishing just ahead of teammate Jennifer Schreiner who cleared a height of 11-5.75. Query finished third in the javelin throw with a mark of 135-10. Query was beat out by teammate Sarah Emerson who recorded a regional qualifying throw of 149-01 to finish second overall in the javelin. SFA also took the top two spots in the triple jump as freshman Shametra Boykins (40-10.25) beat out senior Jessica Claiborne (40-1.25) for the top spot. Sophomore Jocelyn Stevens finished second in the high jump clearing a height of 5-5. SFA also had a strong outing in the 400-meter hurdles as they finished the day 3-4-5. Senior Bonnie McHan finished third with her time of 1:03.65. McHan was followed by freshman Stevina Wyatt (1:03.79) and senior Katie Lonergan (1:04.36).
On the men's side freshman Chance Edwards finished fifth in the 800 meters with his time of 1:55.39. Junior Mike Thompson was second in the 1,500-meter run with his time of 3:58.02. Thompson finished just ahead of classmate Justin Meier who crossed the finish line with a time of 3:58.55. Junior Alex Beckworth finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with his time of 14.48. Beckworth also recorded a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles crossing the finish line with a time of 53.07.
SFA returns to action Saturday May 3rd, when they travel to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the LSU Twilight meet.
