
SFA Heptathletes Have a Strong Opening Day

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin heptathletes opened the 2003 outdoor season Thursday at the Texas A&M Multis/Relays meet with a strong first day of competition. Three Ladyjacks are among the field's top 11 including senior Tracy Schupp who is in second of the bronze group with 2,891 points. Sophomore Lindsey Bryson is tied for fifth with 2,702 points and freshman Crystal Chang is 11th with 2,554 points.
Schupp dominated the sprints and hurdles on the first day of the competition. She finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.87. She also took the top spot in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line with a time of 25.64. Schupp recorded a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 10.45 meters. Bryson cleared a height of 1.55 meters in the high jump to finish tied for fourth. She also recorded a time of 26.20 in the 200-meter dash to finish sixth. Chang recorded a third-place finish in the high jump with her mark of 1.61 meters.
The Ladyjacks will conclude the heptathlon Friday. Events are scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
