Trio Leads 'Jacks Past Centenary, 70-58

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (7-2) used the first career double-double for junior big man Taylor Moore to propel them to a 70-58 win over the Centenary Gents (5-3) Monday night in the coliseum. Moore finished the game with 12 points and a game high 14 rebounds. He was one of five Lumberjacks to finish the night in double figures as Marcus Clark and Dedrick Sanders had 17 each to lead the 'Jacks.
SFA never trailed in the game jumping out to an early 10-3 before Centenary battled back to tie the score on three occasions in the first half of play. The Gents tied the score for the final time of the first half at the 8:19 mark on a three pointer by Andrew Wisniewski. Wisniewski led all scorers in the game with 27 points, 18 coming in the second half.
The 'Jacks led 29-26 at the half only to see Wisniewski hit a three to open the half to knot the score at 29-29, but SFA responded with 12-3 run to build a 10-point lead with 17:20 to play. The Gents cut the lead back to six with 6:59 to play before an 11-3 SFA run buried them for the final time.
Jasen Gast added 12 points and Antonio Burks finished with 10 points for the Lumberjacks. Michael gale was the only other Centenary player in double figures with 17 points. SFA ended the night outscoring the Gents 34-18 in the paint and dominated the glass outrebounding the Gents 42-33. Among the 42 boards were 20 offensive rebounds.
SFA is off until Dec. 30 when the current homestand continues against Cameron. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
