
Burks Named SLC Player Of The Week

PLANO, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin State University's Antonio Burks has been voted Southland Conference men's basketball player of the week after helping his Lumberjacks to two wins and a 3-0 start. Following is a look at his performance along with others nominated for the weekly award.
Antonio Burks, Stephen F. Austin, Sr., F, 6-5, 220, Texarkana, Ark. Burks helped the 'Jacks to a 2-0 record for the week with road wins over Baylor and Alcorn State. He led the team in scoring in both games, posting a career-high 28 points in the win over Baylor and coming back with a game-high 17 points in the Alcorn State win Saturday. For the week, Burks was 17-of-26 (.653) from the field, including 9-of-12 (.750) on three-point attempts, and 2-of-2 (1.000) at the line. He averaged 22.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
HONOR ROLL
Raymond Anthony, LU, Jr., G, 5-10, Aurora, Ill. Anthony averaged 23.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.5 steals per game in helping Lamar post a 2-0 record last week. He scored a career-high 29 points in Lamar's 110-76 win over Hardin-Simmons. He followed with 18 points and five steals in an 88-72 win over North Texas. For the week, he shot 40.6 percent (13-32) from the field, 37.0 percent (10-27) from 3-point range and 91.7 percent (11-12) from the free throw line.
Wilder Auguste, SHSU, Jr., F, 6-6, Brooklyn, N.Y. Auguste scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Sam Houston to a 68-57 victory over previously unbeaten University of Central Arkansas. He went 6-of-7 from the field with three steals and a block. He scored four points in a 122-71 loss to 11th ranked University of Texas at Austin.
Terry Conerway, TXST, Sr., G, 6-3, Cleburne, Texas Conerway led the Bobcats in scoring in all four games last week. He scored 15 points in a win over Texas Lutheran in just 18 minutes and had 11 points in an opening-round loss to Purdue in the Great Alaska Shootout. Conerway scored a career-high 30 points against Alaska-Anchorage and then had 14 points in Saturday's loss to Pacific. Conerway also averaged five rebounds during the week.
Rapheal Posey, UTSA, Jr., F, 6-2, Topeka, Kansas Posey led UTSA with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting in the Roadrunners' 73-47 loss to Illinois-Chicago. He also posted three steals and three rebounds while knocking down two 3-point field goals. Posey has scored in double figures in three of the first four games this season.
Chavis "Tank" Thompson, ULM, Sr., C, 6-10, Florence, S.C. Thompson averaged 10.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in four games last week. In the Indians' first win of the season, against Central Methodist on Sunday, Thompson produced a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. On Saturday at LSU, Thompson hit 6-of-10 shots from the field on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds. He also had 10 points and five rebounds vs. Rhode Island.
