The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack cross country team will be represented at the NCAA Cross Country Championships Monday by seniors Nathan Flores and Mike Thompson announced the NCAA Tuesday morning.
Thompson and Flores led the Lumberjacks to their best finish at the NCAA South Central Regional, guiding the team to a third-place finish. Thompson finished third overall and earned all-region honors and with a time of 30:17. Flores also earned all-region honors with his eighth-place finish (30:47) at the NCAA regional meet. Thompson and Flores were two of four Lumberjacks to earn all-region honors at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship meet.
"Those two have worked really hard this season and it has paid off with a trip to NCAA Cross Country Championships," said SFA cross country coach Lou Snelling. "The thing that I'm most excited about is that we had four underclassmen running in our top seven and will have those guys back for the next two to three years. They had a great experience and came painfully close to making it as a team this season. Now when we go to the NCAA Regional meet in the future, we will know that we belong. Every year we will be in contention for a trip to the National Cross Country Championships."
The NCAA Championships will be Monday Nov. 24th, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The race will begin at 11 a.m.
